Police Arrest Three Men for Illegal Firearms Possession
On the night of May 26, a police buy-bust operation in Makati City led to the arrest of three men for illegal firearms possession. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported that the suspects—identified only as Gaynor, 52, a reporter; Patrick, 26; and Rodrigo, 52, a maintenance worker—were apprehended by Southern Police District operatives on suspicion of gunrunning.
Weapons and Ammunition Seized During Operation
Authorities recovered several firearms and ammunition from the suspects, including three 5.56 caliber rifles and four firearm registration cards registered under Patrick’s name. Additionally, P479,000 in cash, believed to be boodle money, was found with Patrick.
Gaynor was found with a pistol, four .45-caliber magazines, and 16 rounds of live ammunition. Police also confiscated his license to own and possess firearms, a firearm registration card, a permit to carry, and other identification documents. Meanwhile, Rodrigo surrendered two .45-caliber magazines, two .9mm magazines, 13 rounds of live ammo, an ammunition case, and a license to own and possess firearms.
Charges Filed and Legal Violations
The suspects failed to present exemptions from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, which is in effect during the election period. They are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in connection with Republic Act 7166 and Comelec Resolution 11067.
Police Statement on Illegal Firearms Possession
Local law enforcement officials emphasized that the arrest highlights their ongoing commitment to curbing illegal firearms possession in communities. A police district director noted, “These unlicensed weapons are more than just contraband—they are tools of violence that empower criminal elements, endanger innocent lives, and undermine public safety. Every firearm taken off the streets is a step toward a safer environment for our families and communities.”
He also praised the operatives’ vigilance and dedication in carrying out this high-risk operation and reiterated their resolve to remove deadly weapons from the streets and hold accountable those involved in gunrunning.
