Gun Battle Erupts in Lanao del Sur
In a swift and intense encounter, three suspected Daulah Islamiya-Maute militants were killed, while three others were captured after engaging army troops and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group personnel. This gun battle unfolded on Saturday, August 9, in Lumbayanague town, Lanao del Sur, as law enforcement attempted to serve arrest warrants.
Brigadier General Billy de la Rosa, commander of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade, explained that police officers were targeting five key leaders of the Daulah Islamiya-Maute group when the militants opened fire in Barangay Lamin. The military operation aimed to dismantle the group’s leadership.

According to officials, the militants were concealed among a cluster of houses, and soldiers along with police forces faced immediate gunfire upon arrival. Despite the densely populated area, authorities reported no civilian casualties, underscoring the professionalism and discipline of the troops involved.
The three captured suspects were identified as Farhan Desumimba, also known as Al-Wala; Fahd Sarip Marahom, alias Zacariya; and Asnawi Abdullah. The military did not disclose which among those arrested was female.

This latest operation follows a previous 15-minute firefight on May 9 in Barangay Tambo, Bacolod-Kalawi, Lanao del Sur.
