Three Suspects Arrested in Cagayan de Oro Robbery Incidents
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Authorities apprehended three suspects allegedly involved in multiple robbery incidents during a buy-bust operation at an inn in Barangay 32 on Sunday. The suspects are linked to a series of thefts that have alarmed the local community.
Police confirmed that the three suspects are connected to robbery cases in Barangay 29, specifically along Domingo Velez Street, where two establishments suffered losses totaling at least Php 31,000 in cash and valuables. Additionally, they are tied to a high-value robbery on August 2 at a restaurant in Barangay 31, which resulted in estimated losses of around Php 400,000.
Details of the Arrest and Evidence Found
The suspects were arrested right in front of the building targeted in the Barangay 29 robberies, said Police Major Mario Mantala Jr. He noted that police conducted thorough validation and surveillance for over a month before the operation.
During the arrest, authorities seized approximately 15 grams of suspected shabu, valued at about Php 102,000. They also confiscated two .38 caliber firearms believed to be linked to the crimes.
Ongoing Investigations and Suspect Profiles
Investigators are currently tracing the origin of the seized firearms. Drug tests are being conducted on the suspects, with plans for further operations to identify additional individuals involved, officials reported.
The arrested suspects are all in their twenties. Among them is a 25-year-old criminology student. One suspect admitted his involvement, explaining, “May anak ako kaya kinailangan kong tumanggap ng share sa krimen.” Community members said this confession is helping in the ongoing investigation.
Evidence Linking Suspects to Robbery Incidents
CCTV footage and three separate complaints serve as critical evidence tying the suspects to the robbery incidents. The footage clearly shows the suspects breaking into establishments in Barangay 29.
Charges Filed and Public Advisory
Authorities are preparing charges against the suspects, including robbery, violation of RA 9165 (the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) for illegal drug possession and sale, and violation of RA 10591 (the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) for illegal firearm possession.
Police Captain Emilita Simon, spokesperson for the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, urged the public to report robbery incidents immediately, even those occurring at residential areas. She reminded everyone that the emergency hotline 911 is available for prompt assistance within the city.
