Thunderstorm Advisory Issued for Luzon
Thunderstorms are expected to affect Zambales and four other Luzon areas within the next two hours, officials reported on Sunday afternoon. The state weather bureau issued a thunderstorm advisory at 1:35 p.m., warning residents to prepare for moderate to heavy rain showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
Affected Areas and Weather Conditions
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) identified Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Batangas, and Laguna as the provinces forecasted to experience these severe weather conditions. Meanwhile, similar weather is currently impacting parts of Quezon and Cavite, with the possibility of continuing within the next two hours.
Community members in Quezon towns such as Alabat, Perez, Mauban, Atimonan, and Polillo have reported ongoing rain and gusty winds. In Cavite, local leaders noted comparable weather disturbances.
Safety Precautions and Warnings
Officials urged all residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions to mitigate the risks of flash floods and landslides. “All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides,” Pagasa warned.
Tropical Storm Lannie Monitored Outside Philippine Waters
In addition to the thunderstorm advisory, Pagasa’s 24-hour tropical cyclone formation outlook released at 10 a.m. highlighted the ongoing monitoring of Tropical Storm Lannie (international name: Tapah). As of 8 a.m., the storm was moving slowly westward outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
Sources reported that Lannie was last located approximately 650 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The storm carried sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching up to 105 kilometers per hour.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay updated on weather developments and heed all advisories issued by authorities.
