Thunderstorm Warning Issued in Metro Manila, Luzon Areas
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued a thunderstorm warning over Metro Manila and four other key areas in Luzon on Monday, July 28. This weather advisory coincides with the day of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (Sona).
According to Pagasa’s 9 a.m. advisory, moderate to heavy rain showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds are expected within the next two hours in Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, and Bulacan. Residents in these locations should stay alert as conditions may worsen.
Current Weather Conditions May Persist Nearby
Pagasa also reported that areas including Zambales, Quezon (General Nakar), Rizal (Cainta, Taytay, Antipolo, Tanay, Baras, Teresa, Angono, Morong), Nueva Ecija (Licab, Zaragoza, Aliaga, Quezon), Tarlac (La Paz, Capas, Bamban), Bataan (Abucay, Morong, Samal, Orani, Hermosa, Dinalupihan), and Pampanga (Mabalacat, Porac, Angeles, Floridablanca) are currently experiencing similar weather. These conditions may continue within the next two hours and could extend to nearby areas as well.
“All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards, which include flash floods and landslides,” sources said, urging the public to stay vigilant.
Southwest Monsoon Strengthens, Cyclones Monitored
The weather bureau earlier confirmed that the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, is influencing most parts of the country on this Sona day. This monsoon brings increased rainfall and gusty winds, contributing to the current weather disturbances in Luzon.
Meanwhile, Pagasa continues to monitor Tropical Depression Co-May (formerly Emong) and Typhoon Krosa, both positioned outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. While these cyclones are not expected to directly affect the country, they may still enhance the habagat’s impact, potentially causing heavier rains in affected regions.
Residents and local officials are reminded to remain cautious and prepare for possible flash floods and landslides due to the ongoing weather conditions.
