Persistent Thunderstorms Across Metro Manila and Luzon Regions
Thunderstorms continue to drench Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and the Bicol Region this Wednesday afternoon, local officials reported. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued warnings about the severe weather, highlighting that the thunderstorms are expected to persist throughout the day.
According to Pagasa’s 1:49 p.m. advisory, moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning to strong winds are affecting Metro Manila as well as provinces including Batangas, Rizal, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bataan. Several towns and cities within Laguna, Cavite, and Quezon are also under the same weather conditions. In Laguna, Biñan, Santa Rosa, Cabuyao, and Calamba face heavy rains and gusty winds. The Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect for most parts of Batanes, except Itbayat, which is under a higher Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, officials reported. These signals indicate the potential for damaging winds and require residents to take precautionary measures.
Flood Advisory Issued for Coastal Regions
A general flood advisory is currently active across several coastal areas. These include Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Residents in these zones are urged to stay alert due to possible flooding caused by continuous rains.
Typhoon Gorio’s Impact and Forecast
Typhoon Gorio remains within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but is expected to exit by Wednesday, meteorological sources said. It is forecasted to stay as a typhoon before making landfall in Taiwan, after which it will weaken throughout the forecast period. This development may influence weather conditions in nearby regions.
