Thunderstorms to Drench Metro Manila, Two Regions Sunday

Thunderstorms Expected in Metro Manila and Nearby Regions

Thunderstorms are set to drench Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon on Sunday afternoon, officials reported. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast heavy rains accompanied by lightning and strong winds in these areas.

According to Pagasa’s 1:55 p.m. advisory, “Heavy to intense rain showers with lightning and strong winds” will affect Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, Bataan, and Batangas. Community members in these places are urged to stay alert and prepare for sudden weather changes.

Intense Rainfall Already Impacting Several Areas

Local leaders noted that “intense to torrential rain showers with lightning and strong winds” are currently happening in several towns across Cavite, Quezon, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales. Specific locations include Kawit, Imus, and Bacoor in Cavite; San Narciso in Quezon; Doña Remedios Trinidad in Bulacan; General Tinio in Nueva Ecija; Porac in Pampanga; Bamban and Capas in Tarlac; and Botolan and San Marcelino in Zambales.

Flood Advisories Issued for Multiple Regions

Officials reported a severe flood advisory is in effect for Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and the entire Calabarzon region. This alert calls for heightened vigilance as water levels in rivers and low-lying areas may rise rapidly.

Meanwhile, a moderate flood advisory covers the Cordillera Administrative Region and the Ilocos Region. Residents in these zones are advised to monitor local updates and secure their homes against potential flooding.

Weather Patterns Driving the Showers

The heavy rain showers in Northern and Central Luzon are driven by the trough of a low-pressure area located west of Central Luzon, outside the Philippine area of responsibility, meteorological sources explained. This system continues to influence weather conditions, bringing widespread precipitation.

Earlier reports from weather authorities indicated that a cloud cluster east of Northern Luzon could develop into a low-pressure area, which might further impact rainfall intensity and distribution in the coming days.

Community Preparedness and Safety Measures

Local leaders emphasized the importance of preparedness amid the forecasted thunderstorms. “Heavy rains and strong winds can lead to flooding and landslides,” one official said. Communities are encouraged to follow safety protocols, avoid flooded roads, and keep emergency supplies ready.

As the weather system evolves, updates will be provided to ensure public safety and timely response to any adverse effects from the storms.
