Toboso Municipal Government Launches Reward Program
The municipal government of Toboso in Negros Occidental is offering a P10,000 cash reward to anyone who arrests individuals causing disturbances during the town’s fiestas. This new measure aims to maintain peace and order during these festive events, local leaders noted.
Councilor-turned Mayor-elect Richard Jaojoco emphasized that the reward program targets those who disrupt celebrations. “We are doing this to show to the public that we are serious and that we will be filing cases against basaguleros (troublesome person),” he said. This initiative is a direct response to past incidents involving young people that caused alarm and scandal in barangays and puroks during fiestas.
Community Cooperation and Law Enforcement
On June 6, the local police announced on social media that a concerned citizen received the P10,000 reward for apprehending a suspect caught violating Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code, which covers alarm and scandal. This happened as the town prepared for its three-day fiesta celebration.
Jaojoco revealed that the reward system will be enforced starting the annual fiesta from June 11 to 13. “I was thinking to do this every fiesta,” he shared, highlighting the importance of preserving the festive spirit. The local government invests millions to ensure the community can celebrate safely, but unruly behavior often threatens to spoil the atmosphere.
Peace Action Team Prepared for Fiesta
The municipal peace action team has been briefed and trained not only to maintain order but also to provide basic life support if needed. This dual role ensures that they can respond effectively to both security concerns and emergencies during the events.
By offering a tangible reward, Toboso hopes to encourage residents to take an active role in safeguarding their town’s celebrations. The program sends a clear message that disruptive conduct will not be tolerated.
