Tornado Hits Seven Houses in Paoay Ilocos Norte
At around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a tornado struck Barangay Nagbacalan in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, damaging or destroying seven houses, a carinderia, and a gasoline station. The tornado’s sudden impact left the community shaken but, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Paoay Mayor Shiella Galano, together with the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council and volunteers, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The local government pledged to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the disaster.
Local Government Responds Swiftly
“We are thankful that no one was hurt during the incident,” Mayor Galano said. She added that damage assessment is ongoing and assured residents that the local government would help repair their homes. Moreover, the municipal officials have informed the provincial government to request donations such as galvanized iron sheets and other aid for the affected families.
The collaborative efforts between local authorities and volunteers underline the community’s commitment to recovery and rebuilding after the tornado’s destruction.
