Tourism Industry Projected To Hit P5.9 Trillion This Year

The country’s tourism industry is set to reach an unprecedented P5.9 trillion in revenue this year, driven by the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) efforts to enhance infrastructure and cultural travel experiences. This projection marks a significant 13.5 percent growth compared to pre-pandemic figures from 2019, according to local sources.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco emphasized that this boost comes from programs highlighting native culture, expanding emerging markets, and integrating digital platforms to improve tourism services. The four-word keyphrase tourism industry projected to hit appears early, reflecting optimism for continued growth.

Strong Economic Impact and Domestic Spending

Recent forecasts from global travel authorities estimate that the tourism industry projected to hit 21 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) this year. Domestic spending alone is expected to reach P4.1 trillion, while international visitor receipts may total around P709.2 billion. These figures underscore tourism’s vital role in the country’s economic recovery.

To maintain this momentum, the DOT is rolling out nearly 100 Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs) across major tourist hubs. Additionally, traveler assistance platforms like the 151-TOUR hotline and the Travel App Philippines are being promoted to enhance visitor experiences and safety.

Cultural and Regional Tourism Initiatives

Programs such as the Philippine Experience Program and Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tours spotlight regional tourism circuits. These initiatives focus on culinary delights, traditional festivals, wellness retreats, and hidden cultural gems, enriching the country’s travel offerings.

Moreover, new direct flights by international airlines including Air France, Air Canada, Air India, and United Airlines are expected to increase tourist arrivals from Europe, North America, and South Asia, further fueling growth.

Employment and Global Recognition

Tourism supports approximately 16.4 million jobs, making up 34 percent of the national labor force, according to data from government agencies. Industry leaders have praised the DOT’s programs for playing a crucial role in the nation’s post-pandemic rebound and elevating the Philippines as a top travel destination in Asia.
