Persistent Rains Expected Across Philippines
Rains are forecasted to continue across large parts of the Philippines on Tuesday, influenced by a low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, officials reported.
The tropical cyclone formation outlook indicates that this low-pressure area, situated approximately 865 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, remains a key factor for the wet weather conditions affecting the region.
Low-Pressure Area’s Impact on Weather
The state weather bureau detailed that the low-pressure area will bring cloudy skies along with a high chance of rainfall over Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Ifugao, and Benguet. Community members noted these areas should prepare for continuous showers throughout the day.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said, “This low pressure area will continue to move northward and outward and either dissipate or exit the [PAR] if it does not develop into a tropical depression.” He also emphasized the tropical cyclone formation outlook shows only a low potential for the system to intensify within the next 24 hours.
Southwest Monsoon Brings Widespread Rain
Aside from the low-pressure area, the habagat is expected to cause cloudy skies with frequent rains in Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Western Visayas, and parts of Bicol such as Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, local leaders noted.
Meanwhile, the habagat will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and other Visayas provinces. These areas should remain vigilant for sudden weather changes.
Weather Outlook for Mindanao and Surrounding Regions
For the rest of Mindanao, fair weather is expected in general. However, scattered rain showers or thunderstorms may develop from afternoon to evening due to localized thunderstorms, according to community members familiar with the area’s weather patterns.
Residents in affected regions are advised to monitor weather updates regularly, as conditions can change rapidly during the habagat season and with the presence of low-pressure systems.
