Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Updates as Crising Moves Out of PAR
Three areas remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 after Severe Tropical Storm Crising, internationally known as Wipha, left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), local sources reported. The state weather bureau confirmed this in its latest weather update.
Crising strengthened into a severe tropical storm and exited the PAR around 10 a.m., according to the Philippine weather agency’s 11 a.m. cyclone bulletin. Despite its departure, the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal alerts remain active in specific regions.
Areas Under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2
TCWS No. 2 was raised over Batanes, the western parts of the Babuyan Islands (including Dalupiri and Calayan Islands), and the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte (covering Burgos, Pasuquin, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, and Bangui). This signal warns of gale-force winds between 62 and 88 kilometers per hour expected within the next 24 hours. Such winds could bring minor to moderate risks to life and property.
Regions Under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1
Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 covers the remaining areas of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, northern La Union (including Bangar, Sudipen, Luna, Balaoan, Santol, San Gabriel, Bacnotan, and San Juan), Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, and the rest of Cagayan. This signal advises strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour within 36 hours, potentially causing minimal to minor threats.
Crising’s Path and Forecast
The severe tropical storm was last tracked approximately 235 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, confirming its exit from the PAR. Forecasters noted that Crising will continue moving generally west-northwest toward southern China for the coming days.
Officials also warned that Crising is expected to intensify further and may reach typhoon strength by Sunday afternoon or evening. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and monitor official updates.
