Tropical Depression Auring Develops Inside Philippine Area
A Low-Pressure Area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has intensified into a tropical depression named “Auring,” local weather authorities confirmed Thursday evening, July 12. This marks the first tropical cyclone to originate within the Philippine Area of Responsibility in 2025.
As of 10 p.m., “Auring” was located approximately 250 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes. It carries maximum sustained winds reaching 45 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts up to 55 kilometers per hour. The system is moving north-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour.
Current Status and Movement
The tropical depression’s position inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility continues to be closely monitored due to its potential impact on northern islands. Local leaders noted the importance of preparedness as “Auring” advances, although it is currently moving away from populated areas.
Authorities advise residents in northern Luzon and nearby regions to stay updated as conditions may change. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and other agencies are tracking the system to provide timely information.
