Tropical Depression Bising Strengthens Over Northern Luzon
A low-pressure area west of Cagayan has intensified into tropical depression Bising, prompting tropical cyclone signals across parts of Northern Luzon, local authorities reported. This tropical depression is now closely monitored as it moves southwest, affecting weather conditions in the region.
According to meteorological sources, Bising was located approximately 200 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan. It carries maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 55 kph. The system is advancing southwestward at 20 kph, raising concerns for nearby coastal and island communities.
Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 Declared in Key Areas
The Philippine weather agency has raised Tropical Cyclone Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over the western section of the Babuyan Islands, specifically Calayan and Dalupiri Islands, as well as the northwestern part of Ilocos Norte including Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin, and Dumalneg. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and prepare for possible weather disturbances.
Weather experts point out that Bising is already influencing much of Northern Luzon’s weather, bringing cloudy skies, rain showers, and gusty winds particularly in the northwestern Ilocos Norte and western Babuyan Islands. Additional rainfall is expected to extend across the rest of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, mainland Cagayan, and Batanes.
Forecast and Impact of Tropical Depression Bising
The system developed into a tropical cyclone early Friday morning, marking the first cyclone of July and the second for 2025. Weather specialists emphasize the importance of monitoring updates as Bising could cause localized flooding and strong winds in affected areas.
Local leaders and residents in Northern Luzon continue to prepare for the storm’s effects, ensuring safety measures are in place. Authorities urge the public to heed warnings and stay informed through official channels.
