Tropical Depression Bising Triggers Wind Warning
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over the western Babuyan Islands, western Ilocos Norte, and northwestern Ilocos Sur as Tropical Depression Bising gains slight strength. This early warning aims to alert residents about the potential strong winds expected in these areas.
At 11 a.m., the weather bureau reported that the center of Bising was located 28 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan. The tropical depression currently has maximum sustained winds reaching 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center, with gusts up to 70 kph, moving westward at 15 kph.
Forecast and Movement of Tropical Depression Bising
Pagasa forecasts that Tropical Depression Bising will continue moving slowly northwestward over the next 12 hours and is likely to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by this afternoon. After exiting, it is expected to turn northeastward over the sea west of extreme Northern Luzon.
Still, there is a chance the system might re-enter the western boundary of the PAR by Sunday morning, July 6, and then exit again through the northern boundary by Monday, July 7. The forecast track remains uncertain, and a possible southward shift could lead to the hoisting of Wind Signal No. 2 over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
Potential Intensification and Impact
Pagasa also indicated that Bising is expected to intensify into a tropical storm by tomorrow and may further strengthen as it moves over the sea south of Taiwan. Residents in areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 should prepare for minimal to minor impacts from strong winds within the next 36 hours.
