Live Updates: Tropical Depression Crising Triggers Flood Alert
The tropical depression Crising has prompted flood alerts across Metro Manila as heavy rains from the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, continue to lash the region. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that several roads are already experiencing flooding, urging motorists to exercise caution.
According to the MMDA’s latest flood report at 7:04 a.m., the Quirino Guazon southbound lane is submerged up to gutter depth but remains passable for all vehicle types. Similarly, the Aurora Tunnel northbound lane is half gutter-deep yet still accessible to traffic. These flood conditions highlight the immediate impact of the tropical depression Crising combined with the habagat rains.
Strong Rains Forecast Amid Tropical Depression Crising
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall over Metro Manila this Friday due to the habagat. This persistent downpour, fueled by the tropical depression Crising, raises concerns about worsening flood conditions in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, Crising intensified into a tropical storm early Friday morning as it nears Northern Luzon. As of 5:00 a.m., the storm was located 335 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela, and 325 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It carries maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching 80 kph, moving northwest at 20 kph.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, advising residents to stay alert and follow updates. The combination of tropical depression Crising and the habagat is expected to bring more heavy rains and possible flooding in the coming days.
