Legal Moves Ahead of Duterte’s ICC Hearing

Months before former President Rodrigo Duterte’s scheduled confirmation hearing in September, his legal team formally requested an urgent status conference with the International Criminal Court’s Pre-Trial Chamber I. This request aims to take place on or before July 25, according to a redacted document dated July 15.

Duterte’s lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, explained that the purpose of this conference is to determine the most efficient way to move forward with the case. It will also evaluate whether it is still feasible to keep the current hearing schedule amid ongoing delays. These developments mark a critical phase in the international legal proceedings involving the former president.
