Signal No. 1 Raised in Nine Luzon Areas Due to Tropical Depression Crising
Tropical Depression Crising has prompted the Philippine weather authorities to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over nine areas in Luzon. This early warning aims to prepare residents and local officials for the approaching storm’s effects.
At a 5 a.m. briefing, a weather specialist shared that the following places are under Signal No. 1: Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, northeastern Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao), Quirino, Kalinga, eastern Mountain Province (Sadanga, Barlig, Paracelis, Natonin), eastern Ifugao (Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Mayoyao, Banaue, Hingyon, Lagawe, Lamut), northeastern Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Quezon, Bagabag, Diadi), and Apayao.
Storm’s Current Status and Movement
Crising was last tracked 535 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 70 kph. The tropical depression moves west-northwest at a speed of 15 kph, steadily approaching the Philippine landmass.
Experts expect Crising to strengthen into a tropical cyclone within the day. Its path is projected to continue generally northwestward over the next two days, potentially bringing more intense weather conditions.
Increasing Wind Signals and Weather Impact
The weather specialist warned that as Crising nears, the likelihood of raising higher tropical cyclone wind signals will increase. “The highest we can raise is TCWS No. 3,” she added.
In addition to strong winds, Crising is pulling in the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat. This interaction will cause widespread rains across the western parts of the country in the coming days.
Heavy showers are expected not only on the eastern sections where Crising directly influences the weather but also on the western regions, thanks to the enhanced monsoon.
Forecast and Precautions
Forecasters predict that Crising will traverse the northern portion of Northern Luzon and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
Residents in affected areas are urged to stay alert and prepare for possible disruptions caused by strong winds and heavy rains. Local officials continue monitoring the situation to ensure timely responses to any emergency.
