Weather Alert: Tropical Depression Crising’s Cloud Trough Effects
MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that the trough, or cloud extension, from Tropical Depression Crising will affect the Bicol region and eastern Visayas. This weather development is significant as the trough brings indirect but notable impacts to these areas.
“As of now, its effect is indirect because of the trough or the extension of the clouds, this is the current effect,” Pagasa weather specialist John Manalo said in Filipino during the 11 a.m. briefing. He added, “The cloudiness will affect the Bicol region and the eastern part of Visayas.”
Storm Details and Movement
Crising was last tracked 725 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, moving westward at 35 kilometers per hour. It carries maximum sustained winds of 45 kph with gusts reaching 55 kph. According to local weather authorities, it is expected to shift generally west-northwest to northwest throughout the forecast period and will be closest to Northern Luzon by Friday evening.
The tropical depression is forecasted to intensify into a tropical storm by Thursday. By Friday afternoon or evening, it may grow into a severe tropical storm, signaling an escalation in its strength and potential impact.
Southwest Monsoon Brings Additional Rainfall
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, continues to deliver cloudy skies and rain across various parts of the country. These areas include Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, the western Visayas region, and western Mindanao, particularly the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Residents in these regions are advised to stay alert for weather updates as the monsoon conditions may worsen or prolong the rainy weather.
