Tropical Depression Dante Advances Northwestward
Tropical Depression Dante slightly strengthened as it moved northwest over the Philippine Sea, local sources said. As of 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the storm’s center was located about 1,055 kilometers east of northern Luzon.
The system currently has maximum sustained winds reaching 55 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour. It is steadily moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour. Despite this, no wind signals have been raised across the country.
Heavy Rains Expected Due to Southwest Monsoon
Authorities warned that the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, will bring heavy rainfall from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro are forecast to receive over 200 millimeters of rain during this period.
Additionally, provinces such as Pangasinan, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Batangas, Laguna, and Rizal may expect rainfall ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters. This widespread precipitation is linked to the ongoing weather system.
Widespread Rainfall Across Luzon and Nearby Islands
The habagat will also cause moderate rain, between 50 and 100 millimeters, in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Antique, and Iloilo.
Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for possible flooding and landslides, especially in vulnerable communities. Local leaders encourage preparedness as the wet weather continues to affect large parts of the country.
