Tropical Depression Exits PAR, No Direct Threat
The Low-Pressure Area (LPA) that recently left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has strengthened into a tropical depression. However, it is no longer expected to directly affect any part of the country, local weather experts said Tuesday, June 10.
As of 3 a.m., the tropical depression was positioned 435 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales. Since it is now outside the PAR, no local name has been assigned to the weather disturbance. Authorities remain watchful, noting that while the system might reenter the PAR, it still poses no immediate threat to the nation.
Habagat Rains Continue to Soak Western Luzon
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, commonly called the “habagat,” continues to bring significant rainfall over parts of the country, especially western Luzon. This weather pattern is expected to persist, causing wet conditions in various provinces.
According to the heavy rainfall outlook, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may experience heavy rains today. Tomorrow, June 11, the downpour could extend to Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, Marinduque, and Antique.
On June 12, rainfall is forecasted to remain heavy in Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan. Residents in these areas should prepare for possible flooding and landslides, especially in urban, low-lying, and river-adjacent zones.
Flooding and Landslide Warnings Issued
Weather officials warn that rain intensities may be greater in mountainous and elevated regions. The risk of localized flooding and landslides increases, especially where ground saturation from previous rains is significant.
Elsewhere in the country, skies are expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy, with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms. The continuous presence of the habagat highlights the importance of vigilance in vulnerable communities.
