Tropical Depression Huaning Develops Near Batanes
A low pressure area off Batanes has strengthened into Tropical Depression Huaning early Monday morning. Despite this development, fair weather is expected across most parts of the country, officials reported.
As of 4:00 a.m., the center of Tropical Depression Huaning was located approximately 520 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat town. It carried maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 55 kph, local authorities noted.
Weather Forecast and Movement of Huaning
Forecasters said the tropical depression is moving generally northward and will continue this path until Monday evening. Early Tuesday, it is expected to turn north-northeast heading toward Japan’s Ryukyu Islands, community members said.
“It is moving away from the country and it will not have a direct effect on our weather today,” said a weather specialist in a public briefing. The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” has weakened, contributing to predominantly fair weather nationwide, including Metro Manila.
Localized Showers Expected in Northern and Central Luzon
Despite the overall fair weather, the trough or extension of Tropical Depression Huaning is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to parts of the Ilocos region, Zambales, and Bataan, sources said.
Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes, as localized rain may affect daily activities.
Huaning’s Exit and Continued Status
Tropical Depression Huaning is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, officials reported. Throughout the forecast period, Huaning will maintain its status as a tropical depression without intensifying further.
