Live Updates: Tropical Storm Crising Disrupts Baguio Access
BAGUIO CITY — Tropical Storm Crising triggered severe rockslides that blocked two key parts of Kennon Road by Friday night, July 18. The storm’s heavy rains continued to lash Baguio City and surrounding Cordillera highlands into Saturday morning, July 19, causing travel disruptions for locals and visitors alike.
Work crews from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are already mobilized to clear debris at Camp 6, a critical section of the zigzag route that connects the lowlands to the mountain city. The rockslide has completely obstructed the path just before the rock shed, a man-made tunnel-like structure designed to protect travelers from falling debris.
Meanwhile, DPWH is also addressing a recurring soil collapse at Camp 1, another vulnerable spot along Kennon Road. Despite these blockages, travelers can still reach Baguio using alternative routes such as Marcos Highway and Naguilian Road.
Additional Road Disruptions in Benguet Province
Further north, continuous downpours caused a “roadslip” that has made the Governor Bado Dangwa National Road impassable in Dakatan, Kapangan town, Benguet. Local authorities have confirmed that motorists can take alternative routes while repair and clearing operations are underway.
These weather conditions highlight the ongoing challenges faced by mountain communities during the rainy season. Residents and travelers are urged to stay updated on road conditions and follow official travel advisories.
