Tropical Storm Crising Approaches Mainland Cagayan
Tropical Storm Crising is likely to make landfall over mainland Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands by Friday afternoon or evening, sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported this development in its 8:00 a.m. bulletin.
The storm’s center was located roughly 250 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. Crising continues to maintain its strength with maximum sustained winds reaching 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts up to 80 kph. It is moving northwest at a speed of 15 kph.
Areas Under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2
Authorities have raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 in several regions to warn residents of strong winds and heavy rain. These areas include Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, and northern and eastern parts of Isabela, such as Palanan, Ilagan City, and Divilacan, among others.
Additional locations under TCWS No. 2 are Apayao, northern Kalinga (including Tabuk City and Balbalan), northern Abra, Ilocos Norte, and northern Ilocos Sur (specifically Cabugao and Sinait).
Regions under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1
Other provinces placed under TCWS No. 1 include the remaining areas of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, the rest of Abra, Benguet, and the rest of Ilocos Sur. La Union, northern Pangasinan, northern Aurora, and northeastern Nueva Ecija are also under this warning.
Forecast and Movement of Tropical Storm Crising
Pagasa indicated that Tropical Storm Crising is expected to intensify further, reaching Severe Tropical Storm status by tomorrow morning or afternoon. The storm will continue moving generally northwestward over the next 12 hours.
After the anticipated landfall in either mainland Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands, Crising will likely move west-northwest, crossing Extreme Northern Luzon. It is forecasted to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday afternoon.
