LIVE UPDATES: Tropical Storm Crising Strengthens
Severe Tropical Storm Crising is gaining strength as it moves toward southern China. Official weather sources said that Crising, also known internationally as Wipha, is expected to become a typhoon by Sunday. This projection comes as the storm exits the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
According to the latest tropical cyclone bulletin, the storm left the PAR on Saturday morning. It continues to track west-northwest, heading toward southern China for the duration of the forecast period. Meteorological agencies confirmed the storm’s steady intensification and warn that it could reach typhoon status by late Sunday afternoon or evening.
Storm Movement and Weather Impact
Despite moving away from the Philippines, Crising’s effects remain. A weather specialist noted in Filipino, “Even though Crising is now moving farther away from the country, the effect of the southwest monsoon will persist. This will still bring cloudy skies and rain.” Residents should remain alert to changing weather conditions caused by the monsoon’s influence.
Currently, Crising is producing maximum sustained winds reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour, with gusts peaking at 125 kilometers per hour. It is moving steadily west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour. The storm was last located approximately 235 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, confirming its exit from the Philippine monitoring area.
Preparedness and Ongoing Monitoring
Authorities continue to monitor Tropical Storm Crising’s development closely. As it approaches southern China, local governments there are advised to prepare for potential typhoon conditions. Meanwhile, Filipinos are reminded to stay vigilant due to lingering monsoon rains caused by the storm’s proximity.
