Over 1,100 Stranded Amid Tropical Storm Crising

More than 1,100 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers found themselves stranded on Friday afternoon across various ports nationwide due to the impact of Tropical Storm Crising. The Philippine Coast Guard reported these disruptions as the storm affected maritime travel and operations.

Based on maritime safety monitoring from noon to 4 p.m., the Coast Guard recorded a total of 1,123 individuals stranded in 48 ports. This included passengers and those involved in cargo transport, highlighting the widespread effect of the storm on sea travel.

Rolling Cargoes and Vessels Halted by Severe Weather

Aside from the passengers, the report noted that 408 rolling cargoes, 64 vessels, and 28 motorbancas were also stranded due to the worsening weather conditions. Meanwhile, 43 vessels and 689 motorbancas sought shelter to avoid the storm’s strong winds and rough seas.

Authorities urged those planning sea travel to stay updated and heed warnings as Tropical Storm Crising continues to affect the region.

Storm’s Current Location and Movement

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated in its 8 p.m. bulletin that Tropical Storm Crising was last located approximately 100 kilometers northeast of Aparri, Cagayan. It carries maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching up to 90 kph and moves north-northwest at 20 kph.

Areas Under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals

Currently, 10 areas in Luzon are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, while another 10 areas are under Signal No. 1. Residents in these regions are advised to prepare for strong winds and heavy rains as the storm approaches.

Expected Landfall and Exit

Crising is forecasted to make landfall over the Babuyan Islands on Friday night. It is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning or afternoon, though local authorities remain vigilant in monitoring its progress.
