More Than 1,200 Stranded Amid Tropical Storm Crising

Over 1,200 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded in various ports nationwide due to Tropical Storm Crising, local authorities reported Saturday. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) detailed the impact in their maritime safety advisory issued early Saturday morning.

Between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m., the PCG confirmed that 1,280 individuals—including passengers and cargo personnel—remained stuck in 42 ports affected by the storm. Additionally, 400 rolling cargoes, 49 vessels, and seven motorbancas were stranded. To avoid the rough seas and strong winds, another 43 vessels and 39 motorbancas sought shelter in safer harbors.

Eastern Visayas Bears the Brunt

The region with the highest number of stranded people was Eastern Visayas, which recorded 858 individuals. Alongside them were 353 rolling cargoes and three vessels stranded in ports such as Kawayan, Palompon, Bato, San Juan, Maasin, Benit, Liloan, Magallanes/Triana, and Padre Burgos. Eight additional vessels took refuge in the area.

Stranded in Western Visayas and Southwestern Mindanao

Western Visayas had 231 stranded passengers and two vessels, while a motorbanca took shelter at ports including Fort San Pedro, Lapuz, Dapdap Pier, and RJL. Meanwhile, Southwestern Mindanao reported 80 stranded passengers, 26 rolling cargoes, and 15 vessels docked in Zamboanga, Sangali, and Dapitan.

Other Affected Regions and Vessel Movements

Southern Visayas saw four stranded individuals, alongside 24 vessels and four motorbancas. Meanwhile, 31 motorbancas and six vessels sought shelter in the region. Northern Mindanao had 62 passengers stranded as of the latest PCG advisory.

In Bicol, 42 people and 21 rolling cargoes were stranded at Bulan Port. Southern Tagalog reported one stranded motorbanca and 11 vessels taking shelter in Real and Balanacan ports. Palawan had one vessel stranded and five others sheltered safely.

Central Visayas recorded four vessels and two motorbancas stranded in Ubay, Pitogo, and PMSC ports, while three other vessels were sheltered.

Storm Intensifies as It Leaves Philippine Waters

Tropical Storm Crising intensified into a severe tropical storm as it exited the Philippine area of responsibility Saturday morning. Authorities continue monitoring the situation to ensure maritime safety as conditions evolve.
