Tropical Storm Crising Brings Heavy Rainfall Warnings
Zambales and Bataan were placed under an orange rainfall warning this Saturday, July 19, as Tropical Storm Crising (international name: Wipha) and the southwest monsoon continue to affect the region. The latest weather updates from the state meteorological agency confirmed the risk of heavy rain and possible flooding due to this weather disturbance.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration – National Capital Region Services Division (Pagasa-NCR) issued this orange rainfall warning indicating that Zambales and Bataan are expected to receive between 15 to 30 millimeters of rainfall within the next three hours. This amount of rain may lead to threatening flooding in these provinces, sources said.
Expanded Rainfall Warnings Issued
Alongside the orange warning, Pagasa-NCR also declared yellow rainfall warnings for several other areas. These include the entire Metro Manila region, Central Luzon, and parts of Calabarzon such as Batangas, Cavite, Rizal, and specific municipalities in Laguna like Santa Maria, Mabitac, Pakil, and several others. The yellow warning means these areas will likely experience 7.5 to 15 millimeters of rain within three hours, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying or flood-prone zones.
Areas Under Light to Moderate Rainfall Forecast
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain with occasional heavy showers is expected in certain parts of Central Luzon and Calabarzon. This includes the remaining municipalities of Laguna — Liliw, Luisiana, Magdalena, and others — as well as Quezon province. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for possible weather changes.
Current Status and Movement of Tropical Storm Crising
As of Saturday morning, Tropical Storm Crising was located approximately 125 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan. It was moving west-northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds reaching up to 85 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 115 kilometers per hour, local weather authorities noted.
Forecasters predict that Crising will maintain its west-northwest trajectory and is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning or early afternoon. Residents in affected areas should remain vigilant and monitor further updates.
