Tropical Storm Isang Forms and Leaves PAR
Early Saturday morning, Tropical Storm Isang developed and quickly left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), officials reported. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) confirmed the storm’s intensification at 2 a.m., signaling a shift in weather conditions for affected regions.
By 6:30 a.m., authorities noted that Isang had already exited the PAR, moving westward with considerable speed. Its last known position was approximately 290 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union, moving steadily at 25 kilometers per hour.
Storm Strength and Movement Details
Isang was observed carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour, according to weather officials. This tropical storm is expected to continue its westward trajectory while gradually intensifying over the coming days.
“Tropical Storm Isang will continue moving westward throughout the forecast period,” meteorological experts said. “It will gradually intensify and may reach typhoon category while approaching the waters south of Hainan, China.”
Warnings Issued Across Northern Luzon
In response to the storm’s development, Pagasa raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 in several provinces and municipalities. Local authorities reported that this warning covers areas in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and northern Pangasinan, among others.
The affected locations include the northern portion of Pangasinan—such as Lingayen, Alaminos, Dagupan City, and more—as well as Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, and parts of Cagayan and Isabela provinces. The Babuyan Islands are also under alert due to the storm’s proximity.
Understanding Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1
TCWS No. 1 warns residents of strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour expected within the next 36 hours. Authorities emphasized that while the threat to life and property remains minimal to minor, preparedness is crucial.
Community leaders urged residents in the warned areas to stay vigilant and monitor updates as Isang progresses westward. The storm’s potential to intensify into a typhoon near southern Hainan, China, calls for continued observation and readiness.
