Tropical Storms Dante and Emong Slightly Intensify, PAGASA Reports
Tropical storms Dante and Emong have slightly intensified, local weather authorities confirmed. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported these updates in its latest bulletin.
As of 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dante was positioned 815 kilometers east-northeast of northern Luzon. It carries maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h. The storm is moving northwestward at 15 km/h.
Forecast and Movement of Tropical Storm Dante
PAGASA predicts Dante will continue moving generally northwestward over the Philippine Sea for the next 24 hours. Afterwards, it is expected to shift west-northwest toward the Ryukyu Islands and the East China Sea. On its current path, Dante may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by the afternoon or evening of July 24, sources said.
Emong’s Position and Impact
Meanwhile, Emong was last located 235 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. It has strengthened slightly, with winds of 85 km/h near the center and gusts up to 105 km/h. Emong is moving southwestward at 15 km/h.
Due to Emong’s effects, several tropical cyclone wind signals have been issued:
Wind Signals in Effect
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is now in place for the northwestern part of Pangasinan, including Bolinao, Anda, Bani, Agno, and Burgos.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 covers a wider area, including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and many municipalities in Pangasinan such as Dasol, Alaminos City, and Dagupan City. It also affects northern Zambales, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ifugao, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), parts of Isabela, and western Nueva Vizcaya.
Projected Path and Intensification of Emong
PAGASA stated that Emong is expected to move generally southwestward before looping over the West Philippine Sea on July 24. This movement results from its interaction with Tropical Storm Dante. It may make landfall over the Ilocos Region and pass close to the Babuyan Islands.
Local sources noted that Emong could intensify into a severe tropical storm by tomorrow morning. There is also a possibility it may strengthen further into a typhoon before landfall.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated and prepare accordingly as these tropical storms continue to develop. For more news and updates on tropical storms, visit Filipinokami.com.
