Storm Alert: Tropical Storms Emong, Dante Intensify
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storms Emong and Dante are showing signs of rapid acceleration and strengthening as they approach northern Luzon, local weather authorities reported. These tropical storms are expected to gain momentum in the coming hours, posing significant weather threats to the region.
According to recent updates, Emong (internationally named Co-may) was last observed over the coastal waters near Burgos, Pangasinan, moving east-southeastward. Despite its current slow or nearly stationary pace, Emong is projected to speed up and intensify before making landfall.
Projected Path and Intensification of Emong
Weather experts explained that Emong is forecasted to accelerate northeastward tonight. It is likely to make landfall or pass very close to northwestern Pangasinan later this evening. The storm may also touch down in La Union or Ilocos Sur by late evening or early Saturday morning.
“Emong may still briefly intensify prior to landfall due to its compact circulation and favorable atmospheric and oceanic environment,” sources said. This means residents in these areas should prepare for potentially stronger winds and heavy rains.
Following Movement and Expected Impact
After crossing northern Luzon, Emong is expected to emerge over the Babuyan Channel by Friday morning or noon. The storm will then continue its northeastward movement, possibly affecting nearby sea and coastal areas.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Dante is also active, adding to the weather disturbances in the region. Authorities continue to monitor both storms closely to provide timely warnings and updates to the public.
