Typhoon Emong is poised to make landfall over La Union or Ilocos Sur early Friday morning, while Tropical Storm Dante is set to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Thursday afternoon or evening, sources said. These tropical storms Emong, Dante updates are critical for residents in affected regions to prepare and stay safe.

According to the latest 11 a.m. bulletin, Emong was located 220 kilometers west-southwest of Bacnotan, La Union, and 210 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. It is expected to move slowly as it begins turning eastward, then speed up northeastward by Thursday evening, potentially making landfall Friday morning.

Typhoon Emong’s Path and Intensity

Local authorities noted that Emong could approach northwestern Pangasinan between Thursday evening and early Friday morning before making landfall further north. After crossing the mountainous areas of northwestern Luzon, Emong will accelerate northeastward over the Luzon Strait and Philippine Sea, possibly passing near or striking the Babuyan Islands and Batanes between late Friday morning and evening.

Due to favorable oceanic and atmospheric conditions, Emong may briefly intensify before landfall. As of Thursday morning, it carried maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 150 kph, moving slowly south-southeastward.

Storm Signal Warnings for Emong

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 is in effect for northern Pangasinan municipalities like Anda, Bolinao, and Bani, western La Union towns including Luna and City of San Fernando, and southwestern Ilocos Sur areas such as Candon and Tagudin.

Signal No. 2 covers Ilocos Norte, parts of Ilocos Sur, La Union, western Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, parts of Pangasinan, and western Nueva Vizcaya.

Signal No. 1 applies to Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, western and central Isabela, the rest of Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, the remainder of Apayao and Pangasinan, northern and central Zambales, Tarlac, and western and central Nueva Ecija.

Tropical Storm Dante’s Movement and Forecast

In a separate bulletin, officials reported that Tropical Storm Dante, last located 735 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday afternoon or evening. Dante is moving generally west-northwestward toward the Ryukyu Islands and will continue westward over the East China Sea.

The storm is forecast to maintain its strength while exiting PAR but will weaken over the East China Sea by the weekend due to unfavorable conditions. As of Thursday morning, Dante held maximum sustained winds of 75 kph with gusts up to 90 kph and was moving north-northwestward at 30 kph.
