Tragic Deaths During Electrical Work in Binalbagan
In a heartbreaking incident, two brothers lost their lives while performing electrical work in a restaurant at Barangay Pedro, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Monday, June 2. The two men, identified as Dexter, 45, and his older brother Roilan, 48, both residents of Barangay Santo Rosario, were conducting repairs when the fatal accident occurred.
Police reports reveal that Dexter was repairing wiring when he accidentally touched a metal canopy post connected to a live open wire. The electric shock caused him to fall to the ground. His brother Roilan rushed to assist him but was also electrocuted. Both were quickly transported to a nearby hospital but were declared dead upon arrival.
Details of the Electrical Work Accident
According to local authorities, the restaurant had hired Roilan to carry out electrical repairs, with Dexter assisting him. However, Roilan was not a certified electrician; his experience was limited to practical knowledge. This lack of formal training might have contributed to the tragic outcome.
The police chief of Binalbagan, Major Jun Ray Batadlan, emphasized the dangers of working with electricity without proper credentials and safety precautions. “Dexter was fixing a wire when he touched the post of a canopy attached to an exposed wire,” he said. “Roilan tried to help him but was also electrocuted.”
Community Reaction and Safety Reminders
Local leaders expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and urged business owners and workers to prioritize electrical safety by hiring licensed professionals. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the risks involved in electrical repairs without proper safeguards.
