Tragic Incident: Two Children Hacked to Death in Leyte
TACLOBAN CITY – Two children were hacked to death in a brutal attack fueled by jealousy on Tuesday, June 10, in Sitio Cayag-ang, Barangay San Pedro, Albuera, Leyte. The live-in partner of their mother wielded a traditional indigenous weapon called a “sundang” during the assault.
Sources said the victims, a four-year-old girl and her seven-year-old brother, were asleep inside their home when a heated argument erupted between their mother and the suspect. Suddenly, the suspect grabbed the sundang and attacked both the children and their mother.
Immediate Aftermath and Medical Response
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack. Neighbors quickly called for help, and the victims were rushed to a hospital in Ormoc City. Unfortunately, the young girl was pronounced dead on arrival, while her brother succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Their mother, who also sustained serious wounds, remains hospitalized and is currently recovering.

Local leaders noted the community is shaken by the violent act. Police strongly condemned the crime and have launched a manhunt for the suspect to bring him to justice. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
