In Bacolod City, two drivers involved in the tragic death of a six-month pregnant nurse in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental, were freed from police custody on Tuesday afternoon, June 3. They posted a combined bail of P120,000, sources said.
Police Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, the Bago City police chief, identified the drivers as 30-year-old Philip from Barangay Cabug and 59-year-old Salvador from Pulupandan, Negros Occidental. They posted bail of P50,000 and P70,000 respectively through surety bonds.
Charges Filed and Court Dates Set
Both men face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and unintentional abortion before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC), local leaders noted. They were released from detention at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The victim, a 36-year-old nurse, was crossing a pedestrian lane while heading to work in Valladolid, Negros Occidental. She was struck by a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) driven by Philip on Sunday night, June 1. The impact threw her onto the opposite lane, where she was then allegedly run over by a sedan driven by Salvador.
Next Steps in Legal Proceedings
The court has scheduled the first trial for June 10. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served for the victim and her family.
