Two Low-Pressure Areas Inside PAR Could Develop Soon
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is closely monitoring two low-pressure areas inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). One of these has a strong chance of developing into a tropical depression by Wednesday, July 23.
In its 5 a.m. weather update, Pagasa’s Weather Specialist Obet Badrina reported that the low-pressure area with the highest possibility of intensifying was last tracked 1,140 kilometers east of Central Luzon. This system is the most likely candidate to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next day.
Location and Development Chances of the Two LPAs
The second low-pressure area, which has a moderate chance of becoming a tropical depression, was found 370 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan. Both systems remain under close observation as they may influence weather conditions across the country.
“One of these two low-pressure areas may possibly develop into a tropical cyclone. As of now, based on our latest data, the one east of Central Luzon is the likely candidate… It’s the system that could potentially become a cyclone by tomorrow,” Badrina said.
If either LPA strengthens into a tropical depression, it is expected to move northward. Badrina noted, “So there’s a relatively low chance that it will make landfall, even if it does develop into a tropical cyclone within the country.”
Impact of the Southwest Monsoon and Rain Forecast
Aside from the potential cyclone development, the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, will bring widespread rain. This monsoon could intensify if one of the LPAs develops further. Most areas in Luzon and the Visayas are expected to experience rain showers on Tuesday, while isolated thunderstorms may occur in Mindanao.
Residents are advised to stay informed and prepare accordingly as weather conditions may change rapidly with these developing systems.
