Two Low-Pressure Areas Stir Weather in Luzon
Two low-pressure areas are currently being tracked inside the Philippine area of responsibility, bringing cloudy skies and rain to parts of Luzon, officials reported Wednesday. The presence of these systems is expected to influence weather conditions significantly in the coming days.
Location and Status of the Low-Pressure Areas
The first low-pressure area was last detected near Patnanungan, Quezon, according to local weather authorities. This system has weakened and is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, community members said.
Meanwhile, a second low-pressure area formed roughly 200 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. This system holds a medium chance of intensifying into a cyclone in the next 24 hours, sources noted.
Expected Weather Impact from the First Low-Pressure Area
The initial low-pressure area may dissipate by Wednesday afternoon or evening, but it still poses a threat of rain across several regions. “However, we still cannot ignore the rains that this will cause today in parts of Luzon,” a weather specialist said.
Areas forecasted to experience cloudy skies and a high chance of rain include the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), and Central Luzon.
Enhancement of Southwest Monsoon (Habagat)
This first low-pressure area is also enhancing the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat.” As a result, cloudy skies and rain are expected to spread to the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, as well as parts of the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao, officials reported.
Second Low-Pressure Area’s Influence
The second low-pressure area near Dagupan City currently has no direct impact on any part of the country. However, it may further strengthen the “habagat” in the days ahead, local leaders noted.
Residents are advised to stay updated and take necessary precautions as these weather systems continue to affect the region.
