Two LPAs in PAR Unlikely to Develop Soon, Says PAGASA
Authorities reported that two low-pressure areas (LPAs) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) are unlikely to develop into tropical cyclones within the next 24 hours. This update came early Sunday morning from the state weather bureau, reassuring residents about the current weather conditions.
According to officials, one LPA was detected approximately 90 kilometers east-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte. Weather expert Obet Badrina explained that this system shows little chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone soon. Nonetheless, the combined effects of this LPA and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will influence weather patterns across several regions.
Impact of LPAs and Habagat on Weather
Community members noted that the LPA and habagat will bring cloudy skies and scattered thunderstorms to Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and the Bicol Region. These weather disturbances are expected to persist throughout Sunday, requiring residents to stay vigilant.
Moreover, the same weather systems are anticipated to cause rainfall across much of the Visayas, as well as the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Caraga Region. Local leaders advised that these conditions may lead to localized flooding and urged communities to prepare accordingly.
Second LPA Shows Low Development Chance
Another LPA, situated roughly 900 kilometers east of Northern Visayas, was reported to have a low probability of evolving into a tropical depression within the next day. Meteorological sources emphasized that monitoring will continue, but immediate development remains unlikely.
Areas Receiving Moderate to Heavy Rainfall
The LPA east of the Bicol Region is forecasted to cause moderate to heavy rains, ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters, on Sunday. Affected provinces include Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Northern Samar. These rains are expected to continue into Monday for most of these areas, except Northern Samar.
Furthermore, the habagat will bring moderate to heavy rainfall to Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and Negros Occidental on Sunday. On Monday, the rains will likely shift to Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Aklan, and Antique. Officials advised residents in these regions to take necessary precautions against possible flooding and landslides.
Public Advisories and Preparedness
Authorities reminded the public to stay updated on weather bulletins and to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall periods. Community members are encouraged to secure properties and prepare emergency kits in case of severe weather conditions.
While the two LPAs in PAR unlikely to develop into tropical cyclones within 24 hours offer some relief, continuous vigilance remains essential given the expected rains and thunderstorms.
