Minors Caught Stealing Vehicle Plates in Tondo
Early Monday morning, June 2, two minors were arrested for allegedly stealing multiple vehicle plate numbers in Tondo, Manila. The suspects, identified only by their aliases “BCD” and “DJB,” were caught on CCTV footage systematically removing license plates from parked vehicles near a railroad track along New Antipolo Street in Barangay 217, Zone 20. This incident highlights the ongoing concerns over vehicle plate theft in the area.
Authorities responded quickly around 4:30 a.m. and launched a follow-up operation. Shortly after the theft was discovered, the two male minors, residents of Tondo, were apprehended. Police sources noted that the suspects appeared to have been working together to remove plates from various vehicles.
Junkshop Helper Arrested for Possessing Stolen Plates
Further investigation on the same day led police to a junkshop along Gagalangin Street. There, they arrested a 31-year-old helper for allegedly violating the Anti-Fencing Law. The suspect was found in possession of several stolen vehicle plates. Authorities said this arrest is part of their effort to crack down on the illegal trade of stolen vehicle parts.
Details of Stolen Plates and Victims
Police identified at least 13 victims, all residents of Tondo, whose vehicles were targeted. The stolen plates came from a variety of car models, including Toyota Avanza, Vios, Wigo, and Innova, as well as Chevrolet Trailblazer, KIA Soluto, Mirage Hatchback, and Geely Emgrand. The recovered items have an estimated value of around P8,000 and have been documented as evidence.
The minors remain under the custody of the local police district. Meanwhile, authorities are coordinating with the Manila Social Welfare and Development Office to assess the minors’ criminal responsibility. The junkshop helper will face inquest proceedings at the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for violating the Anti-Fencing Law.
