Two Nabbed for House Executive’s Slay, Four Still At Large
Two suspects linked to the killing of a House executive have been arrested, while four others remain at large, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). Authorities continue their pursuit of the remaining suspects as the investigation unfolds.
Mauricio Pulhin, the chief of technical staff for the House committee on ways and means, was fatally shot by two assailants during his daughter’s birthday party on June 15. This tragic event has drawn attention to the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Suspects Arrested Through CCTV Tracking
Police apprehended two individuals, known by the aliases “Balong” and “Jason,” in separate operations conducted in Caloocan City and Quezon City on Monday. PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo shared details of the arrests during a press briefing at Camp Crame.
“Our backtracking of CCTV footage led us to the gunman and a second suspect. The cameras showed them visiting the house of alias ‘Balong’ to hide and change clothes,” Fajardo explained. Police also recovered the gunman’s clothes at the location.
Four Suspects Remain at Large
Among the four suspects still at large are a couple believed to be the masterminds, their assistant named “Christian,” and the gunman. Fajardo revealed that the couple held a grudge against Pulhin because he was reportedly planning to file a case against them.
“The live-in partners allegedly ordered the killing, and they asked their assistant to find a hitman. The suspect ‘Balong’ admitted his involvement,” Fajardo said.
Background of the Case
According to sources, the alleged masterminds were former employees of Pulhin’s private business. Pulhin had intended to file qualified theft and estafa charges against them. This dispute may have fueled the motive behind the killing.
Balong confessed that Christian promised him P30,000 to carry out the assassination. However, he noted, “According to him, they still haven’t been paid to this day.”
Currently, the two arrested suspects are in the custody of the Quezon City Police District and have been charged with murder. Authorities remain determined to capture the remaining four individuals involved.
