Two Sacks of Suspected Shabu Found on Shoreline in Cagayan
Authorities in Barangay Centro 6, Claveria, Cagayan, recovered two sacks of suspected shabu floating along the shoreline on Sunday, June 15. The discovery of the illegal drugs sparked immediate action from local police and community officials.
Two fishermen were the first to spot the contraband. They promptly handed the sacks over to the police, who were led by Police Major Mario Maragun. This swift cooperation helped secure the area and preserve the evidence.
Evidence Handling and Investigation Underway
Officials conducted a thorough inventory and marking of the seized items. Barangay representatives, members of the media, and Erwin Geron Sr., assistant provincial prosecutor, witnessed the process to ensure transparency. Initial inspections identified the contents as a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
The sacks are now held at the Claveria police station. Authorities plan to turn them over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 2 for a comprehensive examination and official documentation.
Authorities Praise Community Vigilance
Police Brigadier General Antonio Marallag Jr., chief of the Police Regional Office-2, praised both the local residents and law enforcement for their role in securing the illegal drugs. “This is a strong example of community and police cooperation,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, police investigators are tracing the source of the sacks. They are also checking whether these drugs are linked to similar shipments recently found in the Ilocos region.
