Two Security Aides Killed in Firefight During Search Warrant

Deadly Clash During Search Warrant Execution

Two security aides of a prominent businessman were killed after engaging police officers serving a search warrant during a dawn operation in Makilala town, Cotabato. The violent encounter also left a police officer wounded, officials reported.

The combined police forces arrived at the residence of businessman Don Ramon Floresta at 12:40 a.m. on August 14, 2025, in Purok Gumasak, Barangay Bulakanon, Makilala. As authorities attempted to serve the search warrant, Floresta’s two security aides resisted, sparking a firefight that ended with their deaths.

Security Aides Identified as Army Personnel

Documents and identification retrieved from the scene confirmed that the two security aides, Jovito Regidor Roa and Paul Lacorte Pedroso, were members of the Philippine Army. Both men died instantly during the gunfire exchange, community members said.

The police officer injured in the incident was immediately brought to a nearby hospital for treatment, local leaders noted.

Search Warrant Linked to Firearms Violations

Don Ramon Floresta was the subject of the search warrant due to alleged violations of Republic Act 10591, known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, authorities reported. During the operation, law enforcement recovered several firearms and ammunition from his home.

The seized items included a Glock 23 pistol, a long firearm, a Colt M16 caliber 5.56mm rifle, magazines, and boxes of caliber .40 bullets, among others.

Businessman Denies Ownership of Firearms

Now in police custody, Floresta denied owning the firearms displayed by authorities. In a radio interview, he acknowledged possessing a licensed pistol for personal protection but expressed surprise over the other weapons found during the search.

“I don’t have those kinds of firearms,” he stated, emphasizing his lack of knowledge about the additional weapons.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the incident and the allegations against Floresta. The clash has raised concerns about security and the presence of firearms in the area, with community members calling for thorough probes and accountability.
