Two Suspects Yield P360,000 Worth of Shabu in Cavite-Laguna Busts
LUCENA CITY—Two suspected drug traffickers were arrested during buy-bust operations in Laguna and Cavite, yielding over P360,000 worth of shabu (crystal meth) and an illegal firearm, sources said. These operations highlight the ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs in the region.
Police Regional Office-4A (PRO-4A) reported that in San Pablo City, Laguna, officers apprehended a suspect known as “Leonard” around 8:20 p.m. in Barangay San Jose after he sold P1,000 worth of shabu to an undercover agent. Authorities seized two sealed sachets containing approximately 50 grams of suspected shabu valued at P340,000, alongside a mobile phone that will be examined for drug transaction records.
High-Value Individual Targeted in Laguna
Leonard is classified as a high-value individual (HVI) in the illegal drug trade. This classification includes financiers, traffickers, manufacturers, importers, or key members of drug syndicates, local officials noted. Identifying and arresting HVIs is crucial for disrupting drug networks.
Meanwhile, in Bacoor City, Cavite, authorities captured a suspect named “Raymond” after he sold an unregistered caliber .38 revolver loaded with three bullets to a poseur buyer in Barangay Queenrow East during the morning. Officers also recovered one sachet of suspected methamphetamine worth P20,400 from the suspect.
Suspects Face Drug and Firearm Charges
Both suspects remain in police custody and will face charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and related firearm violations. Law enforcement continues to press charges to ensure accountability and justice.
Calabarzon Region’s Wider Drug Enforcement Results
Beyond these arrests, police in the Calabarzon region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) reported apprehending 945 suspected drug offenders and confiscating illegal drugs worth over P14.4 million last month, sources said. This demonstrates sustained efforts to dismantle drug operations across the region.
Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, regional police chief, stated that 44 of those arrested were classified as HVIs. Anti-drug units conducted 737 operations from July 1 to 31, seizing a total of 2,097.78 grams of shabu and 1,219.16 grams of dried marijuana leaves.
Although the value of seized drugs in July was lower compared to the P36.9 million confiscated in June, it was higher than the P8.3 million worth recovered in May. This fluctuation indicates ongoing challenges in the fight against illegal drugs but also shows active policing and vigilance.
Authorities remain committed to targeting high-value individuals and disrupting the drug trade networks that threaten communities. They continue to strengthen their efforts to protect public safety and uphold the law.
