Two Vendors Shot Dead in Akbar Municipality Basilan
Two vendors were shot dead in Akbar municipality, Basilan province, on Tuesday, June 3. The incident shocked the local community and authorities who are now pursuing the suspect. The two victims were identified as Radzmel Marajan Jumadil, 25, from Barangay Mariki in Zamboanga City, and Adih J. Villacura, 21, a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Aguada, Isabela City.
The two vendors were traveling on a tricycle carrying their merchandise when an unidentified gunman suddenly blocked their path. Witnesses said the suspect used an M16 rifle to fire at the victims. Jumadil was hit in the forehead and died instantly at the scene. Meanwhile, Villacura was shot in the back and later succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, their driver escaped without any harm.
Suspect Flees to Mountainous Area
After the shooting, the suspect fled toward the mountainous region of Barangay Mangalut. Authorities recovered an empty M16 shell at the crime scene. Police have launched a manhunt and are conducting follow-up operations to track down the perpetrator.
Local officials expressed their concern over the incident and assured the public of intensified efforts to restore peace and order. The motives behind the shooting remain under investigation, as police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
