Typhoon Emong Heavy Rain Forecast Hits Metro Manila

Typhoon Emong Heavy Rain Forecast Impacts Metro Manila and Provinces

Metro Manila and 36 provinces across the Philippines will continue to face heavy rain this Friday, according to recent forecasts. The intense downpour results from Typhoon Emong and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, weather authorities reported.

Based on the early morning rainfall outlook, Typhoon Emong heavy rain forecast predicts intense to torrential rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters in several northern Luzon provinces. These areas include Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, and Benguet. Occidental Mindoro is also expected to experience similar conditions due to the habagat.

Severe Flooding and Landslides Expected

The weather bureau has issued warnings about widespread severe flooding and landslides during these intense rains. Residents in affected provinces are advised to stay alert and prepare for possible emergencies.

Additionally, heavy to intense rain measuring between 100 to 200 millimeters is forecast for Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Zambales due to Emong. Meanwhile, the habagat will bring similar rainfall amounts to Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Tarlac, and Laguna.

“Numerous flooding events are likely, especially in areas that are urbanized, low-lying, or near rivers,” local authorities noted. They also warned that landslides may occur in moderate to highly susceptible zones.

Moderate to Heavy Rainfall to Affect Additional Areas

Typhoon Emong heavy rain forecast further indicates moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters in Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Nueva Ecija. Metro Manila and neighboring provinces such as Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, Aurora, Quirino, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque, Romblon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, and Antique will also experience moderate to heavy rain caused by the habagat.

The weather bureau emphasized that during these rainfall levels, localized flooding could occur mainly in urbanized, low-lying, or river-adjacent areas. Landslides remain a possibility in highly vulnerable locations.

Typhoon Emong’s Path and Current Strength

According to a separate bulletin, Typhoon Emong has accelerated and may make a second landfall in Ilocos Sur or northern La Union by Friday morning. It was last tracked over the coastal waters of Bangar, La Union, moving northeast at 20 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 165 kilometers per hour. Several areas have been placed under various storm signal warnings due to Emong, which continues to enhance the habagat’s effects.

Residents in affected regions should remain vigilant and heed local advisories as the situation develops. Authorities are closely monitoring the typhoon and the southwest monsoon’s impact to provide timely updates.
