Typhoon Emong Makes Landfall in Pangasinan
Typhoon Emong made landfall in the vicinity of Agno, Pangasinan on Thursday evening, local sources confirmed. The powerful storm, known internationally as Co-may, struck at 10:40 p.m., bringing intense winds and heavy rains to the region.
Emong bore strong winds reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour, with gusts surging as high as 165 kph. The typhoon was moving slowly eastward, maintaining its strength as it battered the coastal areas.
Second Landfall Expected in La Union or Ilocos Sur
Authorities reported that the center of Emong is projected to make another landfall either in La Union or Ilocos Sur late Thursday night or early Friday morning. After crossing the rugged terrain of Northern Luzon, the storm is expected to emerge over the Babuyan Channel by Friday noon.
Experts warned that Emong could keep its intensity during the second landfall, although a slight weakening is possible due to the rough mountainous landscape it must traverse.
Continuing Threats and Precautions
Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay alert as Emong’s strong winds and heavy rainfall threaten to cause flooding and landslides. Emergency response teams remain on standby to assist communities impacted by the typhoon’s path.
Local leaders advised families to prepare emergency kits and follow evacuation orders if necessary. The unpredictable nature of Emong’s movement requires constant monitoring and readiness.
