Typhoon Gorio and Habagat to Cause Widespread Rain
Typhoon Gorio and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, are set to bring persistent rain showers across many parts of the Philippines on Wednesday. Officials reported that these weather systems will significantly affect the country’s weather conditions throughout the day.
In the early morning forecast, sources noted that Batanes province is expected to experience strong winds and heavy rains due to Typhoon Gorio. The typhoon was last tracked about 165 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, intensifying the rainy conditions in the area.
Areas Under Typhoon Gorio’s Influence
Local leaders confirmed that Typhoon Gorio will cause cloudy skies with intermittent rain showers over northern Luzon provinces such as Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and Cagayan. These regions should prepare for unsettled weather as the typhoon approaches.
Habagat’s Impact on Luzon and Surrounding Islands
The southwest monsoon or habagat will bring cloudy skies and a high likelihood of rain to Mimaropa, including Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. Community members also highlighted that parts of the Bicol Region such as Masbate, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes will experience similar wet conditions.
Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon may encounter rain showers at any time due to localized thunderstorms. “So it is possible that 5 minutes to 1 hour of heavy rain will occur at any time of the day due to isolated thunderstorms,” an official explained, emphasizing the unpredictability of the weather.
Rain and Thunderstorms in Visayas and Mindanao
In Visayas and Mindanao, the habagat is forecast to cause cloudy skies with a high chance of rain showers and thunderstorms, especially in Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Region, and Soccsksargen. Other parts of these island groups may also experience sporadic thunderstorms throughout the day, officials added.
Warnings and Safety Precautions
A gale warning remains in effect for Batanes due to Typhoon Gorio’s influence. Authorities explained that this warning means ocean conditions will likely become rough to very rough, posing danger to small vessels. “Therefore, it is still not advised for small vessels to venture out due to the dangerous sea conditions there due to the presence of Typhoon Gorio in extreme Northern Luzon,” a weather expert warned.
Residents and travelers in affected areas are urged to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe amid the challenging conditions brought by Typhoon Gorio and the habagat.
