UNODC Advances Digital Transformation Correctional Services in BJMP

UNODC Supports Digital Transformation Correctional Services at BJMP

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) recently conducted a comprehensive tour and forum aimed at improving the digital transformation correctional services of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). This initiative focuses on modernizing jail operations through enhanced digital record-keeping systems.

Led by an international delegation, the UNODC team carried out activities centered on the BJMP’s Digital Record System at the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory (QCJFD). The event was organized in collaboration with the BJMP National Headquarters and the National Capital Region Office.

The BJMP highlighted that the digital transformation correctional services project is designed to boost the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of records related to persons deprived of liberty (PDL). According to sources familiar with the matter, “It served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and gathering insights from both international and local experts on digital justice systems.”

Facility Tour and Rehabilitation Programs Highlighted

Chief Inspector Lourvina Abrazado, warden of the QCJFD, guided the visiting UNODC representatives and BJMP personnel through the facility. She introduced them to the various rehabilitation programs and services offered to the inmates.

These services include livelihood training, educational initiatives, legal aid, and comprehensive healthcare. Abrazado emphasized that the tour also showcased the facility’s commitment to the “No Woman Left Behind” advocacy, demonstrating best practices in the care of female detainees.

Furthermore, the QCJFD chief expressed that this activity represents a significant step toward modernizing jail management. It aligns the facility with international standards and strengthens its dedication to providing humane and progressive correctional services.

Looking Ahead: Enhancing Correctional Services Digitally

This collaboration between the UNODC and BJMP highlights the growing importance of technology in correctional institutions. Through digital transformation correctional services, jail management systems are becoming more streamlined, transparent, and accessible.

Experts say that such advancements not only improve record-keeping but also support rehabilitation efforts by ensuring timely and accurate information flow. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to uphold human rights and improve the lives of persons deprived of liberty.
