Upgraded Matab-ang Water Treatment Plant Enhances Bacolod Water Supply
BACOLOD CITY — PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. and the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) have activated the upgraded Matab-ang Water Treatment Plant in Barangay Granada, marking a significant advancement in Bacolod’s water infrastructure. This upgrade is providing immediate relief to thousands of local residents.
Currently, the facility supplies an additional three million liters of water per day. The plant is projected to double this capacity to six million liters daily by year-end. This increased output is already benefiting communities that had long struggled with low water pressure and inconsistent supply, including Barangays 27 to 30, Villamonte, Estefania, and Mandalagan.
Improved Service Reaches Thousands of Households
Around 5,000 households now enjoy stronger water pressure and better quality. Once the plant reaches its full capacity of six million liters daily, an additional 5,000 households are expected to experience improved service.
“Our goal is not only to restore but also to enhance water service throughout Bacolod. The Matab-ang Water Treatment Plant establishes a solid foundation for this,” said PrimeWater management representatives. They confirmed that increasing output to six million liters per day will meet the rising demands of the growing city.
Advanced Technology and Sustainable Water Solutions
Local officials have praised the upgrade, which incorporates advanced filtration technology to maintain water safety even as volume rises. The project is part of a broader, long-term partnership between PrimeWater and BACIWA aimed at modernizing treatment facilities, expanding distribution networks, and securing sustainable water sources.
Additional improvements are planned to reinforce the resilience of the water system and to ensure reliable service across Bacolod. This roadmap includes further infrastructure upgrades and system enhancements designed to meet future needs.
Local leaders noted that these efforts will help the city adapt to increasing demand while safeguarding water quality and accessibility for residents.
