Using a mobile phone as kodigo during voting is strictly prohibited, the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) reminded voters on Monday. This is because phones can easily be used to take photos or videos inside the polling precincts, which is not allowed.
“Ang dami nagsasabi na dala nila ang kanilang phones at pwede nila ilabas at tingnan bilang kodigo habang sila ay bumoboto. Hindi dapat ginagawa ito kasi your phone can used as a camera at hiding hindi allowed ang camera habang bumoboto,” explained PPCRV spokesperson Ana Singson during a press briefing.
She further emphasized, “Once one person brings a phone, everybody else will do that at mahihirapan na ang mga EBs at volunteers na bantayan para hindi kunan ang mga balota.” This means electoral board members and volunteers would find it hard to prevent voters from capturing ballots if phones are allowed inside.
Why using a mobile phone as kodigo during voting is discouraged
To make the voting process smoother and secure, PPCRV earlier advised voters to write down their chosen candidates on paper instead. This helps voters avoid fumbling with their picks inside the polling place.
“Mabilis tayong makakaboto kasi hindi na roon sa araw na iyon na mag-iisip pa tayo ng atin pong mga ibuboto, mapa-nasyonal man po iyan o mapa-lokal,” said PPCRV national coordinator Arwin Serrano. Writing down choices beforehand speeds up voting since decisions are already made before entering the booth.
Remember, phones are handy but can cause issues if used as kodigo inside polling centers. Voters should follow these reminders to ensure a smooth, fair, and private election experience.
